Tonight’s card is for this week’s Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge. I love the look of white heat embossing on kraft. So, I put together a card with that color scheme and the Lovely Thoughts set.
To make the top panel, I cut a 3.75″x5″ piece of kraft cardstock. Next, I matted it with white (I needed a border to break up all that kraft color).
I then centered an oval die over the panel and die cut the window for my flowers to show through. Using the cut frame over my card front like a stencil, I very lightly penciled the outline of the oval. Doing this made it easier to line up my stamping.
After stamping the large main flower on the card front with white pigment ink, I heat embossed it with white embossing powder.
Then, I grabbed some handy-dandy masking paper and stamped an image of the flower. After fussy-cutting it, I placed it over my nice embossed one.
Using the same technique, I stamped the two smaller flowers, embossed, covered them and then did the leaves. Next, I used a scrap piece of masking paper to cover the leaves that are just in front of the first small flower. I stamped and embossed the last flower, and peeled off all the masking paper.
Then, I erased any pencil lines that were still visible.
I got out my Colorsoft pencils for this card because I wanted to use a color medium that would be solid and opaque against the kraft and white. These pencils lay down a bright, even color. Alcohol markers work too if you use the darker hues, but you have to be careful not to touch the embossing; Copics don’t wipe off like Distress markers will. 🙂
After finishing with the colored pencils, I went over the embossed areas with my Signo pen to fill in any spots I missed and corrected a few areas where I colored outside the lines (oops!). Then I centered my panel over the stamped area and adhered it with foam squares.
I had a word already die cut from an earlier project, and it was still sitting on my desk waiting to be used. I thought it was the perfect sentiment for this card.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my white heat embossing on kraft cardstock. Have a wonderful Easter weekend!
